For everyone

  • The Australian Government offers a fee paying and free translation and interpreting service. This website allows you to book a phone interpreter or an on-site interpreter.
  • There is a list of agencies that must apply for a client code to register for Translation and Interpreting services. Here you can register for TIS National services.

Cultural and linguistically diverse people

  • If you need an interpreter for an appointment with an individual who is culturally and linguistically diverse, visit the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). To receive a free service, you must have a national client code. Ensure that you know the language that you require before making the call.
  • The Carer Gateway: resources in your language section offers information for carers in a range of languages.
  • For information and fact sheets relating to cancer in various languages, visit Cancer Council Victoria: resources in other languages. They also offer a multilingual appointment card that you can use to help culturally and linguistically diverse Australian’s access health care appointments more easily.
  • Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing has bilingual phrase cards and communication cards on daily activities and situations to help with clarifying clients’ needs and more.
