CareSearch Nurses Hub

Supporting nurses with differing scopes of practice and training across different settings of care is an important role of the CareSearch Nurses Hub. During 2022, we worked to update and expand this section of the CareSearch website to better support nurses and how they can best care for people approaching the end of their life.

Initial work included a rapid scan of published literature to gain an understanding of nursing activity across all sectors in relation to palliative care and to identify areas of need for support. This background document was shared with a Steering Group of six experienced nurses from community, aged, acute care and professional representation sectors who guided the update process.

The refined background document was used to plan a workshop to elicit the insights and opinions of a representative group of nurses (ENs, RNs, and nurse practitioners) from across Australia who had responded to a call for expressions of interest. The virtual workshop was held on 19 May 2022 and included discussion and prioritisation of the information within the background document and an exchange of clinical experiences. We then incorporated these important comments and insights into a draft action plan for the hub.

The Steering Group reviewed the action plan and advised on updating of the content and structure of the Nurses Hub in the June - August period. Following review of the final webpages by the virtual workshop group the Nurses Hub was launched in October 2022.
