Who can speak my language?

There are many languages spoken throughout Australia. You have a right to an interpreter when speaking to a health professional. To get started here we list some resources that can be useful for everyone as well as resources developed for specific population groups.

For Everyone

The Advocacy service Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) helps older people to access services and address issues related to Commonwealth funded aged care. Use the language selector at the top of the OPAN webpage to read information on the website in your language.

Visit the Cancer Council Support services website where they offer multilingual resources such as booklets, factsheets and videos in several community languages.

Visit the CareSearch Resources in your Language page to find multilingual resources such as booklets, information sheets, podcasts and videos in several community languages.

Culturally and linguistically diverse people

If you require translation services, the Australian Government provide a national translating and interpreting service (TIS National) for people who do not speak English. This is available as an immediate phone interpreting service, a pre-booked service or on-site service. It's available 24 hours a day, every day of the year for the cost of a local call. Call: 131450.
