Where to find postgraduate theses in palliative care

Theses are a valuable source of information for research and development. Doctoral theses resulting from an extended period of focused original research, are peer reviewed before award of a doctorate qualification. Although the terms thesis and dissertation are sometimes used interchangeably, in some settings they may be used more specifically to distinguish between doctoral work and other higher degree research work e.g. towards a Masters or Honours qualification. They are a useful resource because:

  • they often represent new areas of research,
  • not all research is published through academic journals, and thesis may be the only publicly-available presentation of the work, and
  • they include extensive bibliographies and summaries of research available at the time of completion.
