Most professionals have ongoing needs in relation to their own education and professional development and as such are required to keep up to date. Ongoing professional development can take many forms, including:
- pursuing formal education
- attending study days or short courses
- developing in-service lectures
- writing papers for publication
- completing online learning modules
- attending annual competency updates
- critically analysing a journal article
As part of national registration requirements it is mandatory for many health professionals to do a certain number of hours of professional development a year and keep a log of these as well as written documentation of activities. There are also often requirements to identify learning needs and outcomes of activities. There are resources here that may help.
