The Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA) is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, funded through the National Palliative Care Program. In 2004-2005, over 200 health care professionals completed a PEPA placement, with participants learning more about palliative care and forming strong links between their own service and a specialist palliative care service.
The overall aim of the program is to improve the quality and accessibility of palliative care services to all people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
PEPA provides clinicians with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the palliative approach to care by:
- funded clinical workforce placements or workshops
- integration of learning into your workplace
- establishing networks of support.
