NHMRC Round Three
 

This research program is a joint initiative between the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Department of Health and Ageing to improve the quality of palliative care through research and to develop research capacity in the palliative care community.

Two research rounds were funded over the period 2002-2006. This resulted in 25 research grants and 10 postgraduate scholarships and fellowships, plus a number of research workshops. The National Health and Medical Research Council has details on successful applications for Round One and Round Two.

A summary of the research from Phase One of the National Palliative Care Research Program (221kb pdf doc)  has been produced.

A further $4.3 million over four years has been provided for the period 2006-2010. The Program comprises the following components:

  • Priority-driven Research Grants totalling $1.8 million in funding. Successful applicants are expected to be announced shortly
  • Training awards comprising PhD Scholarships and Postdoctoral Fellowships. The successful applicants for these awards are also expected to be announced shortly
  • Development Grants for projects up to $50,000 for up to 2 years duration. Two calls for research are anticipated and are currently scheduled to be advertised in 2007 and 2008
  • Workshops. Two workshops will be held to build Palliative Care Research Capacity in individuals (2007) and in the research community (2009).
