The Australian Government has provided initial funding of $23.1 million over four years (2005-2009) for the Local Palliative Care Grants Program (LPCGP). In 2007, a further $10.96 million was approved for an additional two years (2010-2011), bringing the total to $34 million dollars. To date five rounds of LPCGP funding have been approved by the Department. These include:

• Funding round one: fit out and equipping premises and transition to home support
• Funding round two: pastoral care, counselling and support
• Funding round three: care planning
• Funding round four: a second release of fitting out and equipping premises, and transition to home support.
• Funding round five: mental illness, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
