CareSearch Recognises Carers Week by Supporting Carers Oct 2010
Anyone, at anytime, can find themselves responsible for the wellbeing of a partner, family member or friend at the end of their life. Most Australians who are terminally ill spend the majority of the last year of their lives in their home - this would not be possible without the contribution of carers.
CareSearch nurses hub supports nurses caring for palliative patients in the community, in hospitals and in specialist settings Aug 2010
Palliative care is an important area of clinical care providing care when a disease cannot be cured. Nurses are a critical part of this multidisciplinary care. Given an aging population and increasing number of patients with multiple, ongoing and complex conditions, nurses in many different settings will look after patients needing palliative care.
National Palliative Care Week
National Palliative Care Week is held each week in May. It draws attention on how we, as a community and as health professionals, support those who are living with a terminal illness and approaching death.
Palliative Care Australia’s campaign this year focuses on If only I knew…how to talk about dying. This campaign aims to encourage community discussion about death and dying.
International Nurses Day 12th May
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world each year on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. The theme for 2010 is Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Chronic Care. Nurses are a core part of any team providing palliative care.
MND Week
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological disease. MND affects approximately 1400 people in Australia at any given time and their carers, families and friends live daily with its impact. On average every day in Australia at least one person dies from MND and another is diagnosed. CareSearch would like to recognise MND week which takes place on May 2-8.
