The Scoping Study for the Palliative Care Knowledge Network looked at whether an electronic network of resources and information to support palliative care in Australia was needed and whether it was feasible and cost-effective.
Professor David Currow was the lead investigator for this project. A Knowledge Network Management Group was set up to oversee its progress. The business plan, including a network concept, was finalised and presented to the Department of Health and Ageing in December 2004. Following submission of the report, the CareSearch team undertook some further developmental work during 2005.
A number of activities relating to the conceptual model and business plan were completed during 2004. They are described below:
A communications plan including project newsletters was undertaken. Copies of the newsletters produced during this Scoping Study are available below:
Information on the project was also distributed to major health and community organisations associated with palliative care. A needs assessment survey (160kb pdf)
was completed.
The Knowledge Network tour visited Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.
The Scoping Study was funded by a grant from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
