Content

The caring@home online education modules are intended for use by health professionals, particularly registered nurses, to teach them about training carers to use subcutaneous medicines to manage breakthrough symptoms. It also supports Aboriginal health workers (AHWs) to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and carers to manage symptoms at home, or on Country.

  • Module 1 - Introducing the caring@home resources and their benefits.
    Aim: To familiarise nurses with the caring@home resources that they can be used to teach carers/families to help manage symptoms at home including safely using subcutaneous medicines to manage breakthrough symptoms..
  • Module 2A - Teaching carers/families to help manage breakthrough symptoms using subcutaneous medicines.
    Aim: To enable nurses to develop knowledge to use the caring@home resources during training session(s) with carers/families to teach them to help manage breakthrough symptoms at home using subcutaneous medicines.
  • Module 2B - Teaching carers/families to help manage breakthrough symptoms using subcutaneous medicines.
    Aim: To enable nurses to develop the knowledge to use the caring@home resources during training session(s) with carers/families to teach them to help manage breakthrough symptoms at home using subcutaneous medicines.
  • Aboriginal Health Worker (AHWs) module.
    Aim: To familiarise AHWs with the caring@home resources and how they can be used to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and carers to manage symptoms at home, or on Country.

Comments

The caring@home resources support community-based services to improve symptom control by integrating carers into the multidisciplinary team and supporting them to help manage breakthrough symptoms safely using subcutaneous medicines. In addition to resources to support nurse training of carers, educational resources and information are provided for general practitioners, nurse practitioners, community pharmacists, and allied health professionals to support carers in this role.
