Q: Who is the End-of-Life Essentials education package for? 

A: The modules and supporting resources have been developed to help doctors, nurses and allied health professionals develop their skills and confidence in end-of-life care. Although initially targeted at acute care, the education is applicable to a wide range of health settings. All components of the e-learning package draw upon the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care.

Q: How much does it cost to register? 

A: The End-of-Life Essentials eLearning is free. The education is funded by the Department of Health.

Q: What email should I use? Can I use my own email account?

A: You can use your personal email or your work email to create an account. If possible, please create only one account. We will send occasional emails to the address you provide.

Q: How long does the eLearning take? 

A: The length of time it takes to complete the modules varies from module to module. Generally the minimum time is about 20 minutes. Some modules have videos, quizzes and self-reflection questions so they may take up to an hour. 

Q: Do I have to complete a module in one go?

A: End-of-Life Essentials offers self-paced learning, which allows you to complete modules at your own speed. This means you can log in and out at any time. When you return, the system remembers where you were up to in a module. The flexibility enables busy people like yourselves to learn whenever is convenient.

Q: What type of device will I need for the eLearning?

A: The End-of-Life Essentials eLearning can be accessed on multiple platforms. Our eLearning will run on most desktop or laptop computers, tablets or smartphones. All you need is working internet connection and browser.

Q: What type and version of browser will I need?

A: It is recommended that you use Google Chrome or Firefox. It may run with other web browsers. Each of these is available for free download on the web. It is important that you use the newest possible browser you can to take advantage of the latest web technologies and block security vulnerabilities. We do not recommend use of Internet Explorer due to it's lack of features and support.

Q: How do I access the modules?

A: You will need to register to access the modules. Registering will provide you with access to all six of the modules. Below are some steps to help you through this process:

  1. Click on 'Register' via the home page www.caresearch.com.au/EndofLifeEssentials or via the individual module subpages under 'Education Modules'.
  2. Complete the registration process and create a username and password.
  3. Once you have registered you will go directly to the Learning Management System http://training.caresearch.com.au/
  4. Enter your username and password (this will be your login each time you return to the module or if you choose to do another module).
  5. To locate the six modules, scroll down the page on your account dashboard and expand the ‘EOL Essentials Module Series’ list under ‘Course Categories’ and click 'Start' under each module icon to begin.

Q: How do I reset my password?

A: Just click the''Forgot username/password?' link on the login page (http://training.caresearch.com.au/) where you will be prompted to enter the email address you used to register and click the ‘Submit’  button. Your password will be emailed to the email address supplied.

Q: Are there any assessments in the eLearning?

A: The modules aren't graded however, there are quizzes and self-reflective activities that you need to answer. The reflective Learning Journal on your dashboard allows you to review your responses and add reflections to these responses. You can also print a PDF version of your responses.

Q: How do I navigate through the modules?

A: All modules can be accessed via the Dashboard. Click on the module icon to open and begin that module. Use the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons to navigate through the modules. Once you have completed a module you will be sent back to the dashboard where you can click on the icon of any other module from the dashboard to progress to that module. Modules do not need to be completed sequentially and can be can be completed in any order.

Q: I cannot watch videos. What can I do?

A: If you are having trouble viewing the module videos, try these tips:

  • Update your web browser to make sure you're using the latest version.
  • Check whether you have access to YouTube on your network. If you're using a work computer your access to YouTube may be blocked or limited.
  • Try the links to Vimeo underneath each of the videos – some learners find the videos often work using this video sharing platform.
  • Try from a different device. Our modules are optimised for viewing from smart phones and tablets.
  • Access our resources from your home, public library or free Wi-Fi hotspot.

Q: I cannot hear any sound. What can I do?

A: If you don’t have any sound, you can read the dialogue in the module videos by turning on the closed captions. Closed captions on videos are not just beneficial for those who are hard of hearing, or who have English as a second language – anyone can find them useful. Captions allow you to watch the videos in noisy environments such as on public transport, when exercising or when you don’t have headphones handy.
To turn on closed captions on a smartphone or tablet:

  1. While watching the video, tap the screen.
  2. Tap the speech bubble icon to open the 'Audio & Subtitles' menu.
  3. Choose the ‘English’ closed caption option.
  4. If you are viewing the videos in Vimeo, tap the 'CC icon' located on the bottom right of the screen.
To turn on closed captions on a desktop computer:
  1. While the video is playing, hover the mouse pointer anywhere over the video to display the playbar.
  2. Click on the 'CC icon' located on the bottom right of the screen.
  3. If you are viewing the videos in Vimeo, click the 'CC icon' located on the bottom right of the screen.

Q: How can I update my details or change my password?

A: If you want to change your password:

  1. First, log in.
  2. On the dashboard click on the profile picture icon and select'Edit Profile'.
  3. Scroll down the bottom of the screen and select'Change password'.
  4. Enter your new password twice into the form.
  5. Click 'Update Password' and then 'Save'.

Q: How do I access my certificate?

A: Once you have completed a module, you will be sent directly to the 'My Completed Courses' page. All certificates for each of the completed modules will appear on this page. 

Q: I have completed a module but I can't locate my certificate

A: The system will automatically issue a certificate once you viewed all pages and completed all activities and assessments within that module. You may need to return to the course contents page and check for sections you have missed. Once you have completed the section or page that was missed it will show as complete.

Try these tips:

  • Log in
  • On your dashboard if a module has ‘Resume’ then this means you need to navigate to the end of the module.
  • If the module does not have 'Completed' written diagonnally across the top of the module icon, you will need to go back to the module index, locate any assessments, and answer any that have been missed. 
  • Once complete, the system will then automatically issue your certificate.
  • Click on ‘My Training Record’ or 'My Completed Courses' up the top of your dashboard to locate your certificates.

Q: Further reading and resources 

A: Each of the modules includes further reading to enable you to learn more about each topic and supplement your learning. You can access further resources by clicking on the module webpages and scrolling to the bottom. There are also more resources in each module.

Q: What is CPD? 

A: CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is the means by which people maintain their knowledge and skills related to their professional lives. CPD can involve any relevant learning activity, whether formal and structured or informal and self-directed. All registered users can print out a certificate of compliance/completion at the end of each module that can be kept as evidence in your professional portfolio.

Q: CPD requirements - Nurses

A: If you are in the nursing profession you will need to complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional development a year. Record the time you spend completing the modules, reading the additional references and resources, and participating in the self-reflective activities. The total time spent can be used to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) registration standard on CPD.

Q: CPD requirements -Doctors

A: Medical practitioners registered with the Medical Board of Australian need to complete a minimum number of CPD hours that are relevant to your scope of practice. The number of hours required varies depending on whether you have a general or specialist registration or both.

Q: CPD requirements -Allied Health 

A: The CPD requirements of each National Board are detailed in the Registration Standards for each profession, published on each Board website. These detail the number of credits/points/hours practitioners must spend each year on learning activities.

Q: What if the connectivity is slow?

A: You should be able to access the modules on tablets and mobile devices on the go. If you experience limited or no connectivity, you might want to consider accessing the modules in a place that has high speed internet. Options could be at home, in the office, or visiting a local library.

Q: Who can help me if I have problems?
