The Palliative Care Workforce Development Framework document, extends the Principles for including palliative care in undergraduate curricula (2012). That document was one of the key resources developed in the first phase of the Australian Government's Palliative Care Curriculum for Undergraduates Project.

This publication and previous versions have been developed through ongoing consultative processes involving academics, clinical experts, and representatives from professional and consumer associations. The lead developer of the Framework is the Palliative Care Education and Training Collaborative (the Collaborative) funded by the Department of Health. The Collaborative has worked closely with CareSearch to support the application of this Framework within the Education Hub.
