Summary

As the Australian population ages and the prevalence of chronic, sometimes life-limiting diseases increases, so to does the demand for palliative care with its emphasis on quality of life. Allied health (AH) professionals are expected to have a key role in meeting this demand. Representing more than a quarter of the Australian health workforce and delivering approximately 200 million health services annually, allied health is an important and major contributor to the Australian system of care.

This review aimed to understand the context of allied health practice in the Australian setting and hence how they might be supported to increasingly engage with palliative care.
