Considerations when caring for someone with AIDS

Working in the area of HIV/AIDS nursing constantly reminds me of the tremendous range of physical, emotional, psychological, and social problems that people directly and indirectly affected by HIV/AIDS encounter on a daily basis. This paper attempts to look at two of the major issues faced. Not only from the patients perspective but also from the associated medical and nursing management.

My objective is to make the audience aware of the vast range of depth required in assessing the holistic nursing considerations when caring for an AIDS patient at home

The first key area is in determining palliative care for the AIDS patient which continues to present health care professionals with unique differences e.g. to that of the terminal cancer patient.

Secondly, due to the significant psychosocial influences of multiple loss in HIV/AIDS, the paper goes on to discuss how this can have major traumatic and life changing effects.
