Geography and population distribution present challenges to the care of children with life-limiting conditions (LLC) within Australia. With funding from the Department of Health (Australia), this project aims to improve the quality of care of children with LLC receive through various educational initiatives. Key activities of the project include:
1) Develop a ‘pop-up’ model of palliative care education, enabling local health professionals to receive
education and be mentored around the care of children with LLC conditions in a timely and responsive manner.
2) Develop Nurse Educator and Allied Health roles within Paediatric Palliative Care Services to provide
education sessions and develop web-based educational resources.
3) Provide training in PPC for medical trainees in paediatrics and palliative medicine at 3 sites.

The project will be evaluated using pre and post intervention questionnaires completed by participants in the educational initiatives. Evaluation will consider factors such as knowledge and confidence around providing care for children with LLC. Other outcomes include the number and location of individual pop-up and scheduled educational initiatives. Interviews with health professionals and families impacted by the interventions will also be undertaken. The project is currently in recruitment phase. At the time of presentation, preliminary data on number of educational visits, cost effectiveness and results of questionnaires will be available
