Challenges in Setting up a Program to Meet the Immediate Educational Needs of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health Professional Staff in Agencies required to Develop Palliative Care Services on Limited Budget in Rural Settings from Existing Core Servic

The challenges which would be detailed in the presentation together with some strategies to meet them are:

• Broad variety of entrance level of knowledge of potential participants in the education programs

• Lack of appreciation among some professionals already involved in care for the terminally ill, of the need for specialist education

• Variety of roles in the make-up of the team required to enable the care to be holistic

• Tyranny of distance

• Availability of clinical experience

• The on-going education challenge of first of all teaching attitudes and secondly inspiring/inducing changes in attitudes.
