Partnership in developing a bereavement knowledge tool – going beyond national borders

In late 2013, CareSearch developed and published the Bereavement Search Filter on the CareSearch website, using it as the base for a set of expert topic searches, designed to connect bereavement practitioners with the evidence in their field, in the PubMed database. The searches are free and straightforward for practitioners to use, embedding a validated search into clickable links. This project was a partnership with the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement, aiming to reach a group whose practice is closely allied to palliative care, and who are often working in small teams or as sole practitioners. The resulting service has been promoted widely by CareSearch to its palliative care community and by the ACGB to its constituents. Presentation at the 2014 international Grief and Bereavement conference in Hong Kong raised international interest, with subsequent publication of an article on the search filter in the journal Death Studies and a requested chapter in a forthcoming major textbook. In early 2015 the Bereavement Search Filter was further deployed as the basis for a set of expert topic searches on the broad area of all grief and loss evidence in the PubMed database. This service has been made available on the Flinders Filters website. Usage of these resources is monitored via web statistics, showing visits from users worldwide. International awareness of the resources is also tracked via website links. This usage information will be outlined in the paper.
