Introduction: The death of a parent is a highly stressful event for children that can leave them at risk of complicated grief. Therapeutic interventions such as bereavement camps can assist children with their grief work.
Objectives of this presentation: To provide all the information, tools and manuals a community needs to establish a camp for bereaved children.
Approach: Wombat’s Wish was established ‘from scratch’ and has been running for 12 years. We want to share our knowledge.
Practice Implications: The hard work of how, what, when and where is done. You now need to mobilise your community.
Conclusions: Bereavement camps provide clinicians with a special opportunity to work with children and their families who are experiencing loss. Combining bereavement activities with recreational activities addresses the nature of bereavement for children.
