Home care and nursing of AIDS patients

This paper is to focus on medical treatment and directly dealing with management of opportunistic infections with relevant home nursing care.

Objectives:

1. To support people living with HIV/AIDS at home, involving families in the actual care.
2. To educate carers about environmental, personal hygiene and nutrition.
3. To educate families on drug use, administration and preventive measures against getting infected.
4. To created an alternative for hospitalisation expenses.

Method:

Addressing and sensitizing relatives of TASO (The Aids Support Organisation) registered clients through counsellors. The families identify problems and anxieties which are discussed at interpersonal level, the medical team informed accordingly, practical solutions appropriate to environment found. Nursing care offered with available resources.

Results:

Families have accepted and cared for patient so reducing stigma. Patients have accepted their condition, live positively and die with dignity at home so home care be encouraged.
