Fungating wounds -Capturing the essence in photographic stories

Fungating malignant wounds pose a multitude of challenges both psychosocially and physically for all those involved. Due to the "uncontrolled nature of fungating wounds"[1] they represent a "unique experience". [1]

This collection of photographic stories from the coalface, looks at what are some of the most confronting situations for patients, families and healthcare workers within the field of palliative care. They have been collected at the Braeside Palliative Care unit over the last two years, and we will hear how patients, staff and families have coped in their individual way with unpleasant and difficult symptom management, the effects on quality of life and the continual awareness of progression of disease. These lessons from the field should be of interest to all concerned in Palliative Care.
