Case study – Lymphangioma circumscriptum

Case study of a patient who elected surgical treatment for a very rare and painful non-malignant skin tumour "Lymphangioma Circumscriptum". In brief, the patient had been diagnosed with cervical cancer and underwent radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenopathy. Consequently she went onto suffer varying degrees of mild to severe vulval and leg Lymphoedema, which also left her vulnerable to intermittent cellulitis infections.

In addition to, and complicated by her Lymphoedema the patient also began to suffer from Lymphangioma Circumscriptum, with lesions mostly identified at the vulva. This very rare condition can go undiagnosed for many years and once diagnosed the patient only has two treatment options, both of which do not guarantee success and the lesions may recur. This case study will incorporate the medical treatment conducted and present the patient in regard to physical, psychological and social components. Further it will investigate further possible development in prevention and treatment of this rare and painful non-malignant skin tumour.
