This section will keep you up to date with news and events in the palliative care community and changes to the CareSearch website. Please note that the links below were current at the time of posting, however links may become obsolete as websites update their content.

International Nurses Day
To recognise International Nurses Day CareSearch has produced a special evidence summary brochure and factsheet on pain management and medications. Nurses are largest group in the health workforce, and provide the most direct patient and family care.

International Palliative Care Network Conference 2012
The IPCNC is hosted online on the Palliative Care Network Community and participation and access to the conference is FREE. Call for Abstracts is open now through 31 May, and palliative care professionals from all disciplines are encouraged to participate in presenting lectures and posters. Poster awards to be presented. Visit www.palliativecarenetwork.com to share your work!

National Standards Assessment Program website
The National Standards Assessment Program has launched their new website at www.nsap.palliativecare.org.au.
The website is full of useful information about participating in NSAP,quality resources, reports, and events. Services currently participating in NSAP can now directly link to theirservice web page directly from the website and are able to input self assessment information, download interim, annual and peer mentor reports, and download or subscribe to the NSAP monthly newsletter.

Aged Care Nursing Scholarships for CPD
Funding from the Department of Health and Ageing through RCNA  can be  sought by aged care nurses to attend short courses, conferences or workshops during 2012. Applications close 27 April 2012.

Cancer Council has developed a comprehensive set of video modules for people affected by brain cancer. The module content spans the whole brain cancer journey, from symptoms and diagnosis onwards.

Study participants need who have experienced the death of a loved one in palliative care
Participants are required for a study which will examine the experiences of families and/or friends of palliative care patients. The research is being undertaken by Trish Smith who is completing a research thesis as part of her Psychology Honours at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. EAPC guidelines on the use of opioid analgesics for cancer pain
An updated version of the guidelines of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) on the use of opioids for the treatment of cancer pain has been published. The new guidelines were published in Lancet Oncology this month, and a podcast with a discussion of the guidelines is currently available

The Senate Inquiry into Palliative Care in Australia
Submissions to the Senate Community Affairs Committee enquiring into and reporting on the provision of palliative care in Australia must be received by 02 March 2012. The reporting date is 12 September 2012.

Residential Aged Care Hub
CareSearch has begun work on the development of a new information hub for those working in aged care facilities. We are keen to receive feedback and comments on this project, particularly from those working in aged care facilities and from residents, their families and volunteers. New online resource for carers
