When someone has a serious illness there are many financial matters that will need to be discussed. Palliative care costs are normally covered by Medicare or private health insurance. There may be extra costs associated with medications and equipment.

The illness may affect the person's ability to continue working. This may mean a change to who is responsible for the finances within the family.

If there is a spouse or dependant children, a family discussion early on can relieve fears and worries. Quite often people find that sorting out finances, including tax matters, reduces worry.
