General Practitioners: Physicians who provide initial care for patients and whose practice is not restricted to a specific field of medicine. General Practitioners where appropriate refer patients to secondary and specialist care while at the same time fostering a continuing relationship with individuals and their families. In the United States, General Practitioners must have completed the education requirements specified by the American Academy of Family Physicians. In the Australian context, General Practitioners must be eligible for fellowship of either of the two Australian general practice colleges - the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) (Source: Royal Australian College of General Practitioners).
The search includes MESH terms Family Physicians and Primary Care Physicians.
