While palliative care has been closely associated with oncology, referrals made be made from many other specialties. Increasingly palliative care principles and approaches are being used in caring for those with advanced dementia, chronic heart failure, neurological disorders or endstage renal disease as well as those with cancer diagnoses.
This section will provide evidence relating to some of the underlying diseases and conditions of palliative care patients that may influence aspects of their care.
