How to get around
Side bar menu
On the left hand side of the screen you will find two columns of menus. The far left outside menu relates to the nine major sections within the website. Clicking on one of these section titles will open up that particular section and show its contents in the inside menu. The inside menu relates to the section that you are currently viewing, it shows the section you are viewing at the very top of this section menu.
Breadcrumbs
You are here: For Patients and Families » Living With Illness
At the top of the webpage you may notice a series of page titles. They are called breadcrumbs. They are showing the pathway you took to get to the page you are viewing or piece of information.
Quick links
Quick links are another type of navigation that take you directly to popular pages or starting points. You can find them on the home page.
Site Map
The site map provides you with a summary of everything that is found in the website. The site map lays out the structure of the website. Clicking on the topic of interest will take you to that webpage or resource. The link to the site map can be found at the footer of any page within the website.
Search function
Search
You can use the search box at the top right of a web page to put in a term to describe what you are looking for. For example if you enter "pain" it will provide a list of pages that have pain as part of their content.
Other icons and images
| Print page |
 |
At the top and bottom of each page you will find a print icon with the words 'Print page' alongside. Selecting either of these print icons will automatically format the page you are viewing ready for printing.
Font size AAA
At the top of the page you will see three different size 'As' with the words 'Font size' alongside. Selecting one of these A's will change the text in the main part in the page to a larger or smaller font to help you with viewing. Further help in adjusting your computer settings can be found in the Accessibility page.
Email page
Also at the top of the page there is an icon that looks like an envelope and has the words 'Email page' to the left of it. Selecting this icon enables you to send a link from the page you are viewing to an email address. This can be helpful if you find a particularly relevant page that you want to remember later or want to send to a friend.

In the GP pages and Patients families section an ‘information’ icon directs you to further material, references or resources.
Save to favourites
If you want to save a webpage for later you can add it to your list of Favourites. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to the far left of your computer at the top of your screen, and click favourites. Then select Add to Favourites. Other browsers may show 'Add to Favourites' in a different location or may call favourites Bookmarks. Then all you need to do in the future is to click on favourites the next time you want to visit that page and click on CareSearch, and you will be taken to that page immediately. A quick way to do this is to hold down the Ctrl and D keys on your keyboard, name your favourite and select Add.
Save to desktop
If you want even faster access to the website you can Save CareSearch or a favourite page to your desktop. This means a website icon will appear on the screen of your computer much like internet explorer or the recycle bin. Go to the page you would like to save to your desktop, right click your mouse on it and select send to desktop (create shortcut).
